Balancing selection in self?fertilizing populations

چکیده
Self?fertilization commonly occurs in hermaphroditic species, either occasionally or as the main reproductive mode. It strongly affects genetic functioning of a population by increasing homozygosity and drift reducing effectiveness recombination. Balancing selection is form that maintains polymorphism, which has been extensively studied outcrossing species. Yet, despite recent developments, analysis balancing partially selfing species limited to specific cases general treatment still lacking. In particular, it unclear whether globally reduced efficacy well?known case overdominance. I provide unifying framework, quantify how maintenance polymorphism different selection, show they can be classified into two categories: overdominance?like (including true overdominance, variable space time, antagonistic selection), affected selfing, negative frequency dependent barely even at multiple loci. also simple analytical results for all under assumption weak selection. This framework provides theoretical background analyze genomic signature sheds new light on evolution including syndrome, interaction with pathogens, evolutionary fate lineages.

Microsatellite DNA markers, which are assumed to drift, have been widely used to assess genetic diversity in all major domestic animal species. These markers provide insight into the arrival and dispersion history of a species, with regard to their content or management history. However, no direct evidence supports current standard microsatellite markers falling under this assumption. Therefore...
متن کاملFixation properties of subdivided populations with balancing selection.
In subdivided populations, migration acts together with selection and genetic drift and determines their evolution. Building upon a recently proposed method, which hinges on the emergence of a time scale separation between local and global dynamics, we study the fixation properties of subdivided populations in the presence of balancing selection. The approximation implied by the method is accur...

Sex selection for non-medical reasons is a major controversy in around the world. Here in this paper, we presented the ethical arguments about sex selection for non-medical reasons and discuss about them in Islamic context. Significant arguments about sex selection relate to sexism and sex discrimination, sex disproportion, human dignity, playing God, psychological pressure on unselected childr...
متن کاملBalancing claims for balancing selection.
Natural selection is expected to leave distinctive signatures on patterns of neutral variation that are tightly linked to a site carrying an advantageous mutation. This notion is the basis for molecular population genetics approaches to the analysis of adaptations in the human genome. In principle, this is an attractive prospect; in practice, several complications and challenges make it difficu...

In 1585, John White returned from ‘Virginia’ with visions of the perfect place to plant the English in the New World. While Raleigh continued preparations for a permanent colony of 115 men, women and children at Chesapeake, John White was appointed governor. But the project failed for lack of supplies and reli...
